Jesse Aridoux
Artist Statement
After over a decade in the design industry as a digital and print designer, I've come to consider myself a multidisciplinary artist. I work and explore with many different types of mediums (acrylic, oil pastel, soft pastels, ink, and graphite). I plan to sculpt and create 3-dimensional art as well. I have been drawing since I was very young, so my medium of choice would be anything that I can hold right between fingers.
It helps me to react quickly when making decisions. The object becomes the conduit between what’s In my head and the material on which the idea is being visual represented, whether it’s paper, wood panels or canvas.
My body of work currently can be described as surreal, abstract, and conceptual, although these styles converge depending on the work I’m creating and the idea I’m trying to communicate. But I believe almost every piece I create has a certain aspect of surrealism at its core. The conceptual influence derives from my eclectic design background. I love graphic design, and I have worked in the design field for over a decade creating a variety of work in different disciplines.
I recently started working on an idea that came to me 10 years ago. I call it Tessonism. It consists of creating artworks on crumpled paper that are shaded with the help of direct lighting (natural or artificial).
The result is a 3D surface with a broken glass-like pattern that resembles Cubism.
My work evolves consistently. It’s diverse. It’s a reflection of my life, past/present and the things that have shaped me along the way.
