Anna Kaisa Kukkonen

Anna-Kaisa Kukkonen (born 1964) is a Finnish glass artist and designer. She´s inspired by nature and its continuously changing atmosphere. She´s especially interested in memory traces which originate in people´s environment. S A A R E T Islands are based on a childhood memory. ´When I was a child I used to swim in a lake near home. As I was swimming I always saw the island named Haapasaari. The island and the captivating atmosphere of the silent lake gave me deep joy and a strong feeling that everything is possible.´ Her art speaks for pure nature - especially for pure water. She exhibits her pieces in white light like the most expensive jewelry to underline the thought that pure nature is the only real luxury we have and there´s not much left of it. Anna-Kaisa believes beauty of the nature is a strong influence. S A A R E T Islands are unique glass sculptures with miniatyr islands inside. L Ä H D E Spring is a vase with pure form and color. The vase got its shape and tones of water and silver from a clear spring deep in forest. Anna-Kaisa aims at minimalistic, reduced form with emotion, strength and sensitivity. For her transparency and three-dimensionality of glass as medium is captivating. She wants glass to show its true beauty. ´Glass always surprises us. It´s like a natural power - in the end you want and have to let it go.
